Accurately administer and documents, medications ordered by Medical Staff. Performs all tasks as indicated within Geriatric Nursing Assistant job description.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Effectively implements individualized resident care plans
2. Responds in a timely fashion to all resident requests
3. Provide timely, accurate and complete documentation on TAR's and GNA Care Plans
4. Accurate, complete skin assessments and any changes reported immediately
5. Administers resident medications according to the institution's policies and procedures without significant errors
6. Maintains accurate medication administration records as per established procedures; signs off medications as they are given
7. Notifies nurse in a timely fashion, of a change in a resident's condition
8. Performs pulse and blood pressure measurements, and documents in MAR as needed prior to medication administration
9. Notifies nurse of a resident's need for prn medication
10. Weekly and PRN update of resident's ability to take medications to the charge nurse, i.e., the need for crushing or extra fluids
11. Administers prescribed routine oral, topical, suppositorial and optic medications as ordered by the Primary Care Provider
12. Respond to all resident requests (verbally or call-light) for assistance
13. Competent in required job skills and knowledge, as evidenced by annual skills checklist
14. Ability to provide range of motion, proper positioning, and assist with resident ambulation
15. Follows all Nursing Department Policies & Procedures
16. Administers medication with knowledge of action, route of administration, side effects and contraindications
17. Obtains vital signs prior to administering specific medications and promptly reports any changes from normal
18. Gives complete report to charge nurse as needed during the day and at the end of the shift on all residents on assignment
19. Assists in Dining Room regularly as assigned
20. Maintains neat and organized medication cart
Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or
Experience:
Current certification from the State Board of Nursing; active status on Geriatric Nursing Assistant registry; current proof of required CEU's as a Certified Medicine Aide.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certified Geriatric Nursing Aide Certificate and placed on state registry. Certificate from and approved Medicine Aide course in the state
